Where to Stay

Hotels & Neighbourhoods

Map of Hong Kong neighbourhoods

There are many great places to stay in Hong Kong. Here is a selection we have chosen for all budgets and tastes.

We recommend staying on Hong Kong Island — Central, Sheung Wan, Wan Chai or Admiralty — for easiest access to the wedding venue on Saturday. Tsim Sha Tsui across the harbour is also a great option with brilliant views.

The Neighbourhoods

Central

The heart of Hong Kong Island. Walkable, well-connected, right in the middle of everything. Duddell's is around the corner.

Sheung Wan

Just west of Central, quieter and full of character. Try Samsen or Tai Lung Fung for dinner.

Wan Chai

Lively and well-connected. Ship Street is worth a look for dinner. Easy MTR to Central.

Admiralty

Extremely well-connected. Outdoor pools at both major hotels. Salisterra at The Upper House is outstanding.

Tsim Sha Tsui — Kowloon

Across the harbour for a more authentic local stay in Hong Kong. Easily connected via MTR, the iconic Star Ferry to Central or Wan Chai, Uber or Taxi anytime.

Hotels

Hotel Location Notes
Figo Sheung Wan Boutique. Great neighbourhood.
Aki Hotel Wan Chai Boutique. Well priced.
The Hari Wan Chai Boutique. Very comfortable.
The Pottinger Central Boutique. Steps from Duddell's.
Kimpton Tsim Sha Tsui Brand new, great rooftop pool. Uber or taxi to Duddell's on Saturday.
JW Marriott Admiralty Outdoor pool. Very convenient.
Grand Hyatt Wan Chai Outdoor pool. Well-connected, walkable to MTR.
Island Shangri-La Admiralty Outdoor pool. Very convenient.
Mandarin Oriental Central Iconic. Steps from everything.
Rosewood Tsim Sha Tsui Best hotel in the world 2026. Uber or taxi to Duddell's on Saturday.

Need Help With Hotels?

We have a travel agent, Lorraine Marwood at 360 Private Travel, who can assist with bookings if you'd like some support. That said, we recommend booking direct — contact the hotel's reservations team, which is common practice in Hong Kong and often gets you the best rate. Alternatively, Booking.com works well if you prefer a third-party site.

Transport

Getting Around
Hong Kong

Hong Kong's public transport is excellent. Pick up an Octopus card the moment you arrive. It'll work pretty much everywhere.

Tram

Tram

The Ding Ding! A charming way to see Hong Kong Island. Matt's favourite way to see the city. Cash, Octopus and Visa accepted.

Red Taxi

Red Taxi

Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. Cash, Visa or Octopus. English understood for simple directions.

Star Ferry

Star Ferry

One of the great short journeys in the world. Take it at least once. Runs from Central or Wan Chai to Tsim Sha Tsui.

MTR

MTR

Airport Express direct to Hong Kong Station. Fastest way around the Island and Kowloon. Tap with Octopus card.

Blue Taxi — Lantau

Blue Taxi

Lantau only. You can take one from Mui Wo to Pui O Beach for The Recovery on Sunday. Cash preferred.

Octopus Card

Octopus Card

Pick one up on arrival at the airport. Top it up and use it everywhere, trains, trams, shops, coffee & more.

Quick Tips

  • Airport Express runs direct from HKG to Hong Kong Station in 24 minutes. Ask for a duo ticket if travelling as two — it's cheaper.
  • Cash is still useful — use HSBC ATMs at the airport and around the city. Taxis often prefer cash.
  • English is widely spoken across the island. Taxi drivers understand simple directions.
  • You cannot Uber to Lantau for Sunday. Plan the ferry from Central Pier 6, or take the MTR to Tung Chung and get a blue taxi from there.
  • Late November is warm during the day but breezy at night — bring a light layer for evenings outdoors.
